Alife makes a damned fine shoe. Not only do their offerings (at least the more minimal styles) appeal to each and every one of my aesthetic sensibilities, but after being a proud owner of two pairs, I can also say they’re a durable and reliable wear as well. Ahead of the warmer weather, I was looking for a suitable addition to my kick collection, and what do you know: Alife’s Chuck Toe Sneaker fit the bill on multiple levels.

Besides being relatively inexpensive ($85.00), especially after considering the shoe’s quality and brand status, the Chuck’s pearl finish is the perfect look for both brunch in Park Slope and beach soirees. Pick up a pair and have the luxury of dressing up or down for a number of different occasions.

Besides this tee — which is on point for a number of obvious, culture and industry commentating reasons — the rest of brand Alphanumeric‘s Spring 2010 catalog is pretty underwhelming. Pick one up through Karmaloop for $24.00.

Ray-Ban‘s iconic Wayfarer has made a serious comeback of late, becoming one of the most ubiquitous eye-wear choices for hipsters and, well, pretty much everyone else, too. Most of their efforts have stayed true to past iterations, though, as Ray-Ban has been hesitant to deviate from their tried and true formula.

But in the spirit of change (and summer), the Wayfarer has been given a hyper-geometric and colorful makeover by multi-disciplined artist, Matt W. Moore. The limited edition “Rare Prints” Wayfarer comes in three versions: all over print (shown above; $190) and two more subdued variants (in black and pink; shown below; $160) that only have the design on the inside of the frames.

Mayer Hawthorne is one of the hottest new indie artists out right now (if you haven’t heard, click here immediately), and this month, in celebration of his debut album, ‘A Strange Arrangement’, Hawthorne’s label, Stones Throw Records, has collaborated with legendary San Francisco skate & apparel shop HUF on a special line of products.

HUF recruited local designer Freegums to design two items for the occasion: a limited edition T-shirt and a heart-shaped USB flash drive. The latter comes pre-loaded with Hawthorne’s stirring remake of Tony Bennett’s classic song, ‘I Left My Heart in San Francisco”, and is now available for pre-order over on Stones Throw’s website. It will officially release after the last stop of Hawthorne’s tour, in San Fran on April 15.

New York menswear brand 3Sixteen has debuted a few new pieces from their Spring 2010 collection. First we have their Utility Shirt ($155.00) made from Indigo Slub denim. Drawing heavily from classic work wear, this piece offers asymmetrical cuffs and subtly detailed pockets. The ringspun denim makes for a soft feel despite the more rigid look. Another option is the Hunting Shirt (shown; $155.00), which is made from black Chambray. These are two great efforts from 3Sixteen, who have been making a solid transition into the menswear world over the past few years. Both pieces, along with the rest of their Spring 2010 collection, are available now both through their online store and their flagship NYC location within Self Edge. Minnesota-based necktie brand Pierrepont Hicks has put their latest offering up for pre-sale on their website. Handcrafted in New York City’s famed garment district, the collection features both neckties and bowties complete with both vibrant plaid and solid pattern schemes. The company is run by a husband and wife duo who have slowly been making a name for themselves over the past few years. Look for the collection to drop in full later this month. Best Made Co. is a New York-based company specializing in custom and limited-release axes. While these are certainly more for show than for use, each axe is hand-crafted, made to order, and created out of Best Made’s warehouse in downtown NYC. In celebration of Canada Hockey’s recent gold-medal victory at the Olympics, Best Made has debuted ‘The National’, a 20-piece release in collaboration with Sidney Crosby. This axe has a red and white handle with several series of numbers running down the length of the wood. The “02 28 10″ signifies the February 28, 2010, date of the gold medal game; while the “67 40″represents the game-winning goal scored forty seconds into the sixty-seventh minute of the game. Finally, the “87″ signifies the number on the jersey of goal-scorer Sidney Crosby. White text across the bill reading “The National” completes this piece. Brand RMX caught up with legendary designer Jeff Staple for the latest installment of their ‘Good to Great’ video series. In the interview, Staple explains how the little things make all the difference. Staple has had a successful career thus far with projects such as the Nike SB Pigeon Dunk and opening New York City’s famed boutique Reed Space. In addition to running his own apparel line, aptly named Staple, Jeff also doubles as a design consultant. This interview is definitely one to check out for anyone interested in design, the apparel world, or entrepreneurship in general. Check out both parts after the jump.

PEGLEG NYC released their Spring 2010 collection today. The brand has been staying busy in the new year with their own collection, a collaborative effort with Casio G-Shock, and a signature line exclusively for Opening Ceremony stores worldwide.

Their Spring collection is smaller than previous years, a sign that the struggling economy is certainly affecting the fashion world. However, while small, the season is filled with well-made, thoughtful items that are sure to brighten your wardrobe just in time for the warmer months.

Inspired heavily by Americana, which we have seen in season’s past from PEGLEG, the collection also draws from British culture as seen in the Union Jack tee ($52.00), which prominently displays the British flag. A sleeveless hoodie and two crewnecks are other winners. Back again for Spring 2010 is the Reverse Denim pant ($120.00, shown below), which has become a best seller over the years. PEGLEG has always been a brand to keep an eye on, and with very little marketing, they still find a way to remain current and relevant.

A sartorial ode to Jaques Cousteau‘s head gear of choice, The Poseidon Beanie ($28.00), from Port Jefferson, New York-based brand CXXVI (One Twenty Six), makes an excellent addition to any spring wardrobe.
