Best Made Co.’s ‘The National’ Axe

Best Made Co. is a New York-based company specializing in custom and limited-release axes. While these are certainly more for show than for use, each axe is hand-crafted, made to order, and created out of Best Made’s warehouse in downtown NYC. In celebration of Canada Hockey’s recent gold-medal victory at the Olympics, Best Made has debuted ‘The National’, a 20-piece release in collaboration with Sidney Crosby. This axe has a red and white handle with several series of numbers running down the length of the wood. The “02 28 10” signifies the February 28, 2010, date of the gold medal game; while the “67 40″represents the game-winning goal scored forty seconds into the sixty-seventh minute of the game. Finally, the “87” signifies the number on the jersey of goal-scorer Sidney Crosby. White text across the bill reading “The National” completes this piece. It is available now in extremely limited quantities for $500 one Best Made Co.’s website. Check out one more look at the axe after the jump. Continue reading

App Magnets by The Jailbreak Collective

These just released App Magnets from Brooklyn-based Product Art company Jailbreak Collective are, in our humble opinions, the coolest magnets ever. Here’s the schpeel from Jailbreak:

“In order to bring the magic of the iPhone into the third dimension, we asked an artist to reach into the iPhone home screen and literally pluck out the apps.  Then we added a little magnetism.  And best of all, we mass produced them so now you too can own your very own set of 3-D App Magnets!”

At $12.99, the set of 18 epoxy magnets–packaged in a large cardboard iPhone replica–includes classic icons like Safari, YouTube, Mail and Maps. In an intelligent let’s-not-get-sued maneuver, the company made each icon a little bit different from Apple’s original versions. Act quick if these are up your alley as Jailbreak says they’ve nearly sold out of their first run. [Gizmodo]
